Working hard or hardly working?
If you don't sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice
-Julia thorn
It shouldn't come as a surprise that we all want things. A cool sports car, that perfect physique, the nice house in the upscale part of town. Tragically in most cases that’s where it ends, as some unfulfilled desire.
with a minimal amount of googling you can discover a range of different news articles, statistics and, poles about how content the American population is. Generally the number falls between 30-50 percent of Americans feel dissatisfied with their personal life. we can root this dissatisfaction a number of different causes such as lack of career growth, working conditions and, lack of relationship growth. obviously way more things can contribute to an individuals dissatisfaction but these are the ones I found consistently. with any amount of closer examination one can tie the majority of these causes to the overarching idea of a lack of quick progress.
This idea is unsurprising due to the fact that in recent years instant gratification has become a larger and larger part of American society. with corporations like Amazon and UPS creating same day shipping. I can order a package in 3 clicks and have it delivered to my doorstep in a matter of hours. This paired with a rise in the use of credit cards and borrowed money Americans specifically don’t work for much of anything anymore. This isn’t a large issue the majority of the time. I mean how big of an issue can ordering toilet paper or toothpaste and having it arrive same day be? When we look at it on a larger scale we see that we are breeding a society that has a inert inability to put any amount of effort into anything. Instead of exercising and watching caloric intake to lose weight people can go get a surgery and have the fat removed. instead of working extra hours to buy that dream car we borrow money on the pretext that we will pay it back later.
We as a society have become estranged to the idea of hard work. very few people are capable of wanting something and then putting in the work to get that thing. So in conclusion the challenge this week is to create a priority list of the things you would like to achieve. Pick two short term goals and one long term goal then, create a plan on how you want to go about achieving these goals. Then it all comes down to your decision to pursue the plan knowing you won't get a payout until the end. this is the definition of hard work. Putting in effort for a goal you understand will not be achieved for a considerable amount of time. don’t be scared go put in some work!
